A few days ago I wrote a journal asking the question, "Is it the responsibility of celebrities to give political and social commentary?"
I got a bunch of awesome well-thought out responses, dang it guys you make it so hard to choose sometimes! Haha
Out of all of them though I decided that I'll give 100

to TWO people, rather than just one, since it was so hard to decide! So congrats to =
belle-of-kilronan and ~
mysterymen! You can view their comments
here and
here.
There is something to say for the power of celebrity, as a few of you noted with examples. There is good and there is bad, like =
tearsofbreakingglass' example of Lady Gaga speaking out against DADT, or ~
mysterymen's example of Jenny McCarthy speaking out against vaccinations for children.
But yes, my position is pretty similar. It definitely is not a dedicated responsibility of celebrities to speak out for or against political and social topics, and I definitely agree that it's imperative for people to think for themselves instead of relying on the opinions of celebrities.
Now, I mentioned I'd be working on an In The News article a few days ago - you know how life is though it's sort of gotten in the way of doing much on deviantART as of late. So what I'll do instead is put a handful of interesting links in here which might be interesting. Enjoy
